As we pass the mid-point of our winter maintenance season, the crew is hard at work. Demolition, always the quickest, is complete and building and installation are forging ahead. Captain Liam, who has been taking the lead in shipwright matters this year, is building new deck planks for the starboard quarterdeck. That new wood will be a pleasure to see for anyone stepping on board in the next season. We have also been replacing sealing planks on the port side near the galley.
We are replacing our entire refrigeration system! Affectionately known as the “reefer,” Clearwater’s marine refrigerator has served us well and is currently being updated with newer technology that will ultimately keep the crew’s provisions at a more consistent temperature for longer. An improvement of shipboard life for sure!
Lastly, we are building a new generator box. The green wooden box, housing our generator and bilge manifold, has certainly seen better days, and the new one will not only protect these systems but be a safe place to sit for crew and passengers alike.
We hope you will join us for our Open Boat at the Grey Barn at the Hudson River Maritime Museum on February 22 from 2-5pm to see our winter’s restoration projects firsthand, meet our crew and staff, and enjoy live music, children’s activities, and potluck! Learn more about our February Open Boat.
