Americana Rockers Elvis Perkins in Dearland Donating $$ From Debut CD to Clearwater

Poughkeepsie, NY – Elvis Perkins in Dearland, a popular Americana rock quartet based in upstate New York, has announced that the band, in conjunction with its record label, XL Recordings, and online digital music retailer Amie Street, is donating proceeds from its new album to Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, America’s flagship environmental organization.

The self-titled debut album from Elvis Perkins in Dearland was released on March 3 at a discounted price of $8 on Amie Street  (www.amiestreet.com) as part of the retailer’s “Download to Make a Difference” campaign. For each album purchased until March 13, Amie Street and XL Recordings are donating $2 to Clearwater, which was founded by Pete Seeger and others in the mid-1960s to clean up the Hudson River.

“We’re absolutely thrilled that Elvis Perkins and his bandmates are supporting Clearwater’s mission to create the next generation of environmental leaders,” said Jeff Rumpf, executive director of Clearwater. “Over the past four decades nearly half a million school age children have sailed on the sloop Clearwater and been inspired by our innovative education programs aimed at learning how to protect our earth. Music and ‘the power of song’ have always been key elements for our organization in bringing people together, so receiving this kind of help and recognition from these exceptional musicians is especially appreciated.”

Elvis Perkins in Dearland’s new eponymously titled CD is the fifth major release in Amie Street’s “Download To Make A Difference” campaign, which has raised tens of thousands of dollars for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Food Bank for New York City, Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation and other organizations in the past six months.

Prior to the release of the CD, the four members of Elvis Perkins in Dearland—frontman Elvis Perkins, Brigham Brough, Wyndham Boylan-Garnett and Nick Kinsey—voted which group or organization they wanted to support with their donation, and Clearwater was the unanimous choice.

Elvis Perkins in Dearland are based in the Mid-Hudson Valley and have earned a substantial fan base with its superb songcraft and compelling performances. Perkins has been a rising figure in the folk-rock singer-songwriter subgenre for a number of years, and his 2007 solo release, Ash Wednesday, also on XL Recordings, was widely praised.
