Now Accepting Group Applications

Festival2013slider-11Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, America’s flagship environmental organization is now taking applications for the spring 2014 sailing season. Applications are now being accepted to sail onboard the sloop Clearwater or the schooner Mystic Whaler. Those interested in submitting an application can fill one out online at www.Clearwater.org/Come-Sailing.

The sloop Clearwater’s renowned “Sailing Classroom”  provides an ecological adventure and a voyage of discovery onboard a historic tall ship, giving passengers an opportunity to learn about the Hudson River, participate in the sailing the ship, and join in sing-a-longs with the crew. Since Clearwater’s launch in 1969, more than half a million people have experienced the Hudson River’s estuary ecosystem firsthand aboard the sloop.

The schooner Mystic Whaler joins the sloop again this season, sailing the Hudson River this coming April through June, to complement Clearwater’s educational and public sail programs. In addition, both vessels will offer public sails at Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival, taking place on Saturday and Sunday, June 21 and 22 at Croton Point Park, in Westchester County, NY.

Clearwater’s educational group sails bring history, biology, physics, and environmental science to life and are suitable for groups from fourth grade through college. Educational sails include dockside orientation before departure, a call for “all hands to the halyards” to help hoist the sails, education stations, a presentation on Clearwater’s history and mission, participation in maritime and folk music, and an opportunity to take the tiller.

Private parties, weddings, team-building sessions, and gatherings onboard the picturesque sloop Clearwater or the graceful schooner Mystic Whaler can be customized to meet individual group needs, and can accommodate caterers and hired musicians. Our professional captains and crew are experienced in facilitating a variety of special events and make every effort to ensure that the details of each sail are arranged to perfection.

The Clearwater sail season runs from April to the end of October, casting off from and returning to several docks along the Hudson River from Albany to New York City. Typical sails are three hours long with 5-hour sails and extended and overnight programs also available.
