Plans for Kingston Waterfront Building and Homeport

On Saturday June 4, the sloop Clearwater, as part of the third annual River Day, will sail from Poughkeepsie that afternoon, leading a flotilla of boats, to arrive at the Kingston Waterfront for a culminating dockside press conference at the Hudson River Maritime Museum docks.

Kate Mitchell, Hudson River Maritime Museum executive director will provide a welcome at a press event taking place at 5 PM, where speakers will provide an overview of the Clearwater and Hudson River Maritime Museum partnership and the proposed new Clearwater Homeport to be built on the Kingston waterfront. Scheduled speakers include Maurice Hinchey, US Representative; Steve Digilio, Hudson River Maritime Museum Board president; Allan Shope, Clearwater Board president; and Jeff Rumpf, Clearwater executive director.

River Day 2011, the third annual river-wide celebration, will bring together river communities to celebrate the Hudson’s rich history and the most important legacy of all, the ecosystem that is the Hudson River Estuary. In 2009, the first River Day was held as part of the region-wide Quadricentennial celebrations, and in 2010 several organizations from New York to Albany collaborated to make the event an annual tradition. This year, River Day continues to grow as a community-based event.

The Hudson River Maritime Museum will be open that day from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM offering deck tours on Half Moon, Perriauger Mercury Revolutionary Era presentations, live raptor presentations inside the museum, and the “Tugboat Mathilda Clothesline Art Competition,” as well as music and maritime themed children’s activities.
