NERRS protects ecologically significant estuarine areas across 24 states and Puerto Rico through a network of 30 research reserves conserving over 1.4 million acres of estuarine lands and waters while supporting collaborative science, long-term ecosystem monitoring, and hands-on education and training.
Here in the Hudson Valley, the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve (HRNERR) at Norrie Point Environmental Center facilitates citizen science, diverse education programs, and manages four critical wetland habitats along the Hudson estuary: Stockport Flats, Tivoli Bays, Iona Island Marsh, and Piermont Marsh, and much more.
