About Crys Matthews

The publication Ear Mile has this to say about Crys Matthews: “A passionate and powerful blend of infectious Americana melodies and folky instrumentation, Matthews delivers her honest songwriting through a beautifully raw and unfiltered lens. Oozing soul, her voice bleeds with emotion and gratitude, while simple piano melodies and upbeat percussion fill you with appreciation and love for the people around us who fight for change.” Crys Matthews is an award-winning singer-songwriter and social justice advocate known for blending Country, Americana, Folk, Blues, and Bluegrass into a bold, socially conscious sound. Crys is a daughter of the South by way of Nashville now and North Carolina forever. She is the self-proclaimed poster child of intersectionality. Matthews, in her new album Reclamation, sings social justice music right alongside ‘traditional’ Country and Americana music. Her purpose: to use her music to amplify marginalized voices and challenge systemic inequities.

This is what the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers says about Matthews, her writing, performance, and delivery: “By wrapping honest emotions around her socially conscious messages and dynamically delivering them with a warm heart and a strong voice, she lifts our spirits just when we need it most in these troubled times.” Just what we need!
