For Lisa, Paddle for Our Hudson is more than a challenge; it’s a tribute. Inspired by her late father, who worked for the National Park Service Rivers and Trails Conservation program and loved kayaking as a way to connect with nature, Lisa sees every mile as a way to honor his memory.

“Growing up in Minnesota, my dad instilled a love of the outdoors in me and my sister. I only became a ‘casual’ kayaker in the last 10 years, but this felt like the perfect way to carry on something that meant so much to him.”

Lisa has set a goal of 20 miles this season, paddling wherever she can, mostly in the lower Hudson Valley.

More from Lisa:

Q: What inspires you to Paddle for Our Hudson?

A: My dad. He recently passed away and kayaking had become one of his most favorite ways to connect with nature. He worked for the National Park Service Rivers and Trails Conservation – and growing up in Minnesota, he instilled his love of spending time outdoors to me and my sister. I have only within the last 10 years, become a “casual” kayaker and I thought this was a wonderful way to honor him.

Q: Where are you paddling during the challenge?

A: Wherever I can! Mainly lower Hudson Valley.

About Paddle for Our Hudson

Paddle for Our Hudson is Hudson River Sloop Clearwater’s annual paddling challenge and fundraiser where paddlers compete against eachother and themselves to log miles to raise awareness and funds to support Clearwater’s mission to protect the Hudson River and steward the next generation of environmental leaders through education, advocacy, sailing, and music.

Whether on a canoe, kayak, rowboat, or stand-up paddle board, all are welcome to Paddle for Our Hudson! Paddle can be completed from anywhere, miles do not need to be logged in the Hudson River or Hudson River Watershed – paddle for our Hudson from near or far.
