July 24, 2025 Update: The EDC vote on the Economic Development Council is postponed indefinitely. Thank you for your advocacy!

Over the years Clearwater has been priced out of all the marinas in Brooklyn. Last season we began docking at PortSide NewYork – a literal safe harbor for the Clearwater, and an enthusiastic host and programmatic collaborator. PortSide’s continued existence and Clearwater’s only dock in Brooklyn is under threat.

PortSide NewYork connects New Yorkers to the harbor through award-winning education programs, workforce training, cultural events, and hosting visiting vessels – all from a historic tanker, MARY A. WHALEN, at the Brooklyn Marine Terminal (BMT) in Atlantic Basin, Brooklyn. The NYC Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is creating plans to redevelop the Brooklyn Marine Terminal and has excluded PortSide NewYork from its plans.

Over the years, the EDC has been supportive of permanent land and dock space for PortSide NewYork.

After nearly 20 years of transformative work, PortSide still hasn’t received the space it was promised, and its future is at risk. PortSide NewYork is a critical part of the fabric of the Red Hook community, and a vital part of the NYC Maritime community.

Help PortSide achieve the permanent space they need to both continue and expand their programs, and ensure visiting vessels like Clearwater have a safe harbor in NYC for years to come. Take action by July 17.
