            "description": "<p>Things are getting salty! This part of the estuary has brackish water. The water is not quite as salty as the ocean, but it is not freshwater either. For thousands of years this was the perfect habitat for oysters. From Haverstraw Bay to New York Harbor, there were millions of oysters\u2014some as large as a dinner plate! However, overharvesting oysters and water pollution wiped out oyster populations. Now, the Billion Oyster Project is restoring oyster reefs. Although most of their work is in New York City, they do maintain oyster cages in the Tappan Zee (Zee is Dutch for \u201csea\u201d) near Haverstraw. Oyster reefs are a nature-based solution to climate change. They protect shorelines from storm surge by absorbing wave energy so that waves are not as strong by the time they reach land.<\/p>",

They did not protect people in the Ossining State prison, people of color, or people in lower-income communities. On April 23rd, 2021, the final nuclear reactor was shut down. Clearwater, FTW! Nuclear energy is an alternative to burning fossil fuels, but Clearwater believes that other renewable energy sources are much safer climate solutions.<\/p>",
