Instead of nuclear or any other false climate or energy solutions\, we want RENEWABLE energy like solar\, wind and conservation and storage technologies- all of which are faster to build\, cheaper\, and safer than nuclear- which will get New York State and our communities to NY’s Climate Justice Law’s energy and emissions mandates.\n\nRegister to attend.\nDecades of experience demonstrate that nuclear energy is too toxic\, too dangerous\, too expensive\, and too slow to build to be a climate solution. Additionally\, the entire nuclear “cycle” perpetuates environmental injustice. Nuclear power generation is part of a uranium fuel chain which disproportionately impacts Indigenous communities. The process creates highly toxic radioactive waste\, some of which is transported through Onondaga Nation land and directly through the city of Syracuse\, in violation of treaty agreements between the US and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. All nuclear reactors (old and new) must also store waste on-site\, and there is no long-term plan for storing the waste and no safe way to transport it. \nThe organizing groups encourage masking and/or social distancing due to ongoing high levels of COVID-19 among our communities in various regions. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring water\, snacks\, and sunscreen! DESCRIPTION:Join Clearwater for a week of hands-on outdoor adventure and river exploration! Designed for children entering 4th and 5th grades\, this land-based summer drop-off program brings the magic of Clearwater’s environmental education to Long Dock Park. Campers will investigate the Hudson River ecosystem\, engage in nature-based games and activities\, and build a deeper connection to the environment through science\, storytelling\, and stewardship. \nRooted in Clearwater’s mission of inspiring lifelong care for the Hudson\, this immersive week nurtures curiosity and connection to the natural world\, all while having fun outside with new friends! \nRegister now! \nThe program cost is $475 per child for non-members\, and $400 per child for Clearwater members for the full week. Drop off is at 9am and pick up is at 2pm each day. Beforecare and aftercare are not available for this program. \nAll participants must be fully vaccinated according to New York State Department of Education guidelines for immunizations for school-aged children. Bring a picnic\, enjoy the riverfront\, and tour the boats\, and explore the unique efforts of each vessel and organization. Free and family-friendly (ages 5+). \nAbout the boats: \nApollonia\nLaunched in 2020\, the schooner Apollonia is bringing sail freight back to the Hudson River\, channeling the power of wind\, tide\, muscle\, and traditional knowledge to move locally-sourced\, shelf-stable products.  With each voyage\, the Apolloina and crew create new connections across diverse riverfront communities and work toward a more resilient future. \nThe Bob Boyle\nLaunched in 2024\, the Bob Boyle is Riverkeeper’s newest boat and scientific research vessel\, allowing for the expansion of the organization’s river-wide water quality monitoring program. The Boyle is named for Riverkeeper founder\, Robert H. Boyle (1928-2017)\, an investigative journalist\, avid outdoorsman\, environmental activist\, and author. \nClearwater\nLaunched in 1969\, the sloop Clearwater is recognized as America’s Environmental Flagship. Over its nearly 60 years on the Hudson River over half a million students\, families\, advocates\, and community members have ventured aboard the Clearwater to experience the river first-hand\, learning about and taking action to protect the Hudson River. \nHaendel\nBuilt in 1965\, Haendel was originally a survey boat for the US Army Corp of Engineers. She has lived many lives (including being owned by the state of VT!) and now works as a ferry and sightseeing boat connecting the river communities of Hudson\, Athens\, Catskill and Coxsackie.

DESCRIPTION:Pete Seeger (1919-2014) was a legendary musician and activist. He was Woody Guthrie’s friend\, and used his music to protest for Civil Rights\, for the environment and against the war in Vietnam. For his unflinching efforts\, he was blacklisted and forced to testify before the House UnAmerican Activities Committee. Over his 90+ years\, Pete touched the true heart and soul of America with his songs and his passion for what is right. As an environmental activist\, he founded Hudson River Sloop Clearwater to “build a boat to save the river\,” creating an intergenerational community of Hudson River advocates through education\, sailing\, advocacy\, and music. \nThis event is a benefit fundraiser for Hudson River Sloop Clearwater\, featuring Michael J. Miles and Tony Trischka will be opened by Betty and the Baby Boomers. Miles and Trischka are both world-renowned banjo players who had decades-long relationships with Pete Seeger\, and the Baby Boomers\, consisting of Betty Boomer\, Jean McAvoy\, Paul Rubeo\, Steve Stanne\, and Robert Bard\, came together back in 1987 through their work for Clearwater. \nIn this one-time-only event at the renowned Towne Crier in Beacon\, NY (Pete’s hometown)\, Miles and Trischka will share their music and their stories of personal encounters with Pete Seeger. You can expect some of the best banjo music on planet earth\, along with stories about Pete\, including some of his testimony before the House Un-American Activities Committee. The story of Pete Seeger demonstrates over and over his passion for social justice and planet earth. And Pete’s tool of choice for delivering his message was the banjo. \nWe are so grateful to musicians Michael J. His stylings have inspired generations of bluegrass and acoustic musicians. His seventeen solo albums are part of every banjo-lover’s musical reference. His latest release\, “Earl Jam\,” a tribute to his “North Star”\, Earl Scruggs\, has been released to glowing reviews and features Billy Strings\, Molly Tuttle\, Vince Gill and Del McCoury. It was voted Collaborative Recording of the Year (2024) by the IBMA. It was also a Grammy nominee for Bluegrass Album of the Year (2025). \nTony has recorded and performed with Earl Scruggs\, Pete Seeger\, Steve Martin\, Ed Helms\, John Denver\, William S. Burroughs\, The Allman Brothers\, Miley Cyrus and many more. He’s a three-time Grammy nominee and produced Steve Martin’s “Rare Bird Alert\,” featuring Paul McCartney and the Chicks. He was the musical director of the documentary “The Banjo Project\,” which aired on PBS in 2011. Tony has performed multiple times on the Grand Ole Opry\, and made appearances at Carnegie Hall\, The Kennedy Center and Madison Square Garden. \nIn addition to his skills as a composer and performer\, Tony is one of the instrument’s top teachers\, and has created numerous instructional books\, DVDs and CDs.
