SUMMARY:End-of-Season Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the close of Clearwater’s 2026 sailing season with an afternoon of live music\, community\, and Hudson River fun! Enjoy live music\, connect with local businesses and nonprofit organizations\, and join us as we reflect on an incredible season before we begin our next big restoration project. The celebration will also feature sails at 1pm (sold out) and 5:30pm (sold out). Community organizations like Land to Learn and For the Many will be set up alongside Clearwater and the Hudson River Maritime Museum\, and Zack Munsell of Friendly Banjos will give kid-friendly\, interactive music performances at 4pm and 5pm. \nNext week\, Clearwater will downrig before beginning the final phase of a 15+ year project to restore the hull of the sloop. This project will focus on the transom and topsides\, and will take about 8-months to complete with the work being done by Clearwater’s shipwrights\, crew\, and trainees at the Hudson River Maritime Museum.

The parade will begin at the Verrazano Narrows Bridge at 9:30am on July 4 and sail to the George Washington Bridge\, and Clearwater will act as an escort to Esmeralda\, a tall ship of the Chilean Navy. Clearwater will be taking 25 passengers for the parade\, boarding at PortSide NewYork in Atlantic Basin in Red Hook\, Brooklyn\, and disembarking at the 79th Street Boat Basin. \nPassengers must arrive at PortSide NewYork in Atlantic Basin by 5:45am ahead of a 6:10am departure. Approximate disembarking time is 2pm depending on conditions at 79th Street Boat Basin in Manhattan\, and passengers should expect to be onboard for 8 hours. Light breakfast and light lunch will be served. Passengers are welcome to bring additional refreshments\, including beer and wine. Hard-sided coolers and glass are prohibited. Alcohol consumption onboard is at the discretion of the captain. \nShade is limited on the Clearwater\, and we advise dressing accordingly for the weather in light layers and bringing sunscreen\, a hat\, and a full reusable water bottle. Rustic bathroom facilities are available below deck and can be accessed by a ladder. \nInformation on getting to PortSide NewYork \nIn the event of severe weather or unsafe conditions\, we will notify ticket holders regarding cancellation or rescheduling plans. As a member-supported non-profit\, our work is made possible by our donors and supporters. The parade will occur in the East River and sail toward New York Harbor beginning at 1pm. Clearwater will be taking 25 passengers for the parade\, boarding at PortSide NewYork in Atlantic Basin in Red Hook\, Brooklyn\, transiting up to the starting line\, and disembarking passengers at PortSide NewYork. \nPassengers must arrive at PortSide NewYork by 10:30am on Friday\, July 3\, ahead of an 11am departure. At the parade’s conclusion\, Clearwater will return to Atlantic Basin\, and passengers will disembark at PortSide NewYork at approximately 4pm\, depending on conditions\, and passengers should expect to be onboard for 5 hours. Perfect for kids of all ages.\nFaith from Faithfully Yours Atelier specializes in sustainable fashion – reducing waste one upcycle at a time and will be hosting a mending table. please bring an item that is in need of light mending and Faith will guide you through a repair. Keep an eye out for a new date later this summer. \n———————————- \nJoin us for a rare and exciting riverside gathering featuring four iconic vessels with a purpose\, The Bob Boyle\, Apollonia\, Clearwater and M/V Haendel for a special evening of exploration\, education\, and celebration on the Hudson River. Bring a picnic\, enjoy the riverfront\, and tour the boats\, and explore the unique efforts of each vessel and organization. Free and family-friendly (ages 5+). \nAbout the boats: \nApollonia\nLaunched in 2020\, the schooner Apollonia is bringing sail freight back to the Hudson River\, channeling the power of wind\, tide\, muscle\, and traditional knowledge to move locally-sourced\, shelf-stable products.  With each voyage\, the Apolloina and crew create new connections across diverse riverfront communities and work toward a more resilient future. \nThe Bob Boyle\nLaunched in 2024\, the Bob Boyle is Riverkeeper’s newest boat and scientific research vessel\, allowing for the expansion of the organization’s river-wide water quality monitoring program. The Boyle is named for Riverkeeper founder\, Robert H. Boyle (1928-2017)\, an investigative journalist\, avid outdoorsman\, environmental activist\, and author. \nClearwater\nLaunched in 1969\, the sloop Clearwater is recognized as America’s Environmental Flagship. Over its nearly 60 years on the Hudson River over half a million students\, families\, advocates\, and community members have ventured aboard the Clearwater to experience the river first-hand\, learning about and taking action to protect the Hudson River. \nHaendel\nBuilt in 1965\, Haendel was originally a survey boat for the US Army Corp of Engineers. She has lived many lives (including being owned by the state of VT!) and now works as a ferry and sightseeing boat connecting the river communities of Hudson\, Athens\, Catskill and Coxsackie.

The idea behind the Rights of Nature is simple but powerful: instead of treating nature only as property\, we recognize natural entities—like rivers\, forests\, and mountains—as being alive\, having agency\, and bearing rights.. In this talk\, Karenna will speak to the history of this novel legal strategy\, and explore what it could mean for the future of environmental protection. The talk is a practical introduction to a growing global movement that’s reshaping how we think about law\, ethics\, and our place in the natural world. \nRegister to attend. \nPlease plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the sail for boarding.
