DESCRIPTION:Clearwater is thrilled to announce a new exhibit at the New York State Museum\, celebrating the role of music and our sloop in building the movement to save the Hudson River. This summer\, with the support of Harper House Music Foundation\, Clearwater donated a collection of Great Hudson River Revival signs\, programs\, photographs\, and other artifacts to the New York State Museum\, ensuring our history of music\, education\, community\, and activism will be preserved and shared as our work continues. \nThe exhibit will open on Saturday\, October 10\, and be in the West Corridor of the museum through April 25\, 2027 with a larger exhibition opening in 2028 or 2029. \nLearn more about the donation\, and about the history of the Great Hudson River Revival.

Reserve your ticket. \nAbout Matt Watroba with Robert Jones \nEver since their first meeting\, over thirty years ago\, Robert Jones and Matt Watroba have been musical partners. Their relationship dates back to when they hosted back-to-back radio shows on WDET-FM\, Detroit. In performing together\, they discovered a friendship based in mutual respect and a love for traditional American music. \nFor Matt and Robert\, American Roots Music (Folk\, Blues\, Spirituals\, Work Songs\, Chants\, etc.) is “Music that Matters”. It is music that reflects history\, social change\, migration\, hopes and dreams. Together\, in 2019\, they formed a non-profit company called Common Chords. DESCRIPTION:WHEN: 3pm Saturday\, November 21\, 2026\nWHERE: Beczak Environmental Education Center\, 35 Alexander Street\, Yonkers\, NY 10701 \nSixty years ago this autumn\, Pete Seeger and a group of determined neighbors and activists came together to found Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and began playing concerts to raise money to build a sloop to “save the river.” The concerts inspired a movement to restore the Hudson River\, and three years after the first concert\, Clearwater set sail for the first time. \nFor six decades\, Clearwater has championed a swimmable\, drinkable\, fishable Hudson River by bringing people together through education\, advocacy\, sailing\, and music. While the Hudson is healthier in many ways\, our work is far from over\, as legacy pollution\, emerging threats like climate change\, and rollbacks of federal regulations still threaten our river. \nJoin Hudson River Sloop Clearwater in celebrating this milestone at Clearwater’s 60th Anniversary Benefit Concert on Saturday\, November 21 at 3:00 pm at the Beczak Environmental Education Center in Yonkers\, and support the next 60 years of our work to protect the Hudson River. The concert will feature performances by Tom Chapin\, Emma’s Revolution\, Reggie Harris\, and Magpie.  \nTickets are $35/per person\, though additional donations are welcome. DESCRIPTION:When: January 11 to January 15\, 2026\, from 8:00 to 5:00 each day\, with a break for lunch\nLocation: Hudson River Watershed Alliance\, 36 Saint James Street\, Unit E\, Kingston\, NY 12401 – map\nCost: $735 \nWe’re excited to be collaborating with Practical Navigator to offer a 5-day captain’s course in the Hudson Valley this winter for the third year in a row! Kate Enright of Practical Navigator will be teaching the course and will be creating a custom version that caters to sailors and the class audience. Take your sailing to the next level and explore maritime careers as a captain carrying passengers!  We are offering an unbeatable price for an in-person course. \nThe course will prepare you to test for and submit an application to the USCG for an “Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels” (OUPV) license\, commonly known as the “6-pack”\, which allows you to operate vessels with up to six paying passengers\, or a 100 Ton masters license\, depending on your goals. If you want to carry passengers onboard your boat for paid activities—fishing trips\, scenic tours\, diving adventures\, or transportation—you’ll need a captain’s license. \nPrerequisites include interest\, commitment\, and the ability to study online before class. Furthermore\, interested students should have the necessary sea time to submit their application within one year from the completion of the course. For an OUPV\, that is 360 Days of sea time\, with 90 (of the 360) days of sea time within the last three years. All necessary books and study materials will be provided on loan. \nA perk of taking a Practical Navigator course is that you get 2 years of free MMSEAS PRO access – they are experts at license applications and can give you 1:1 counseling on the application. This can support students with the licensing process and ensure follow-through and a license in hand! \nThis course can provide a boost to people who have long hoped to pursue a Captain’s license but have been stumped by self-studying. Currently\, he is based in Ithaca\, New York\, and tours extensively around the U.S.\, Canada\, and Ireland. Reserve your ticket. \nAbout Mustard’s Retreat\nMustard’s Retreat has for decades been delighting audiences as raconteurs\, storytellers\, and accomplished musicians (vocals\, guitars\, dulcimer\, electric bass\, mandolin\, harmonica\, pennywhistle). David Tamulevich & Libby Glover have always sung the songs they enjoyed and cared about. In every performance\, they simply are themselves\, delighting in and connecting with their audiences as if they were family. \nMustard’s Retreat does not give a formal ”performance”. A sharing of songs and experience is what happens when they are on stage. Their songs can be traditional\, contemporary\, or their own compositions. Regardless of type\, the audience is invited into their world and is drawn closer together. It is music for real people about real things- life\, love\, sex and death- the big stuff- and the songs have entered the lexicon of “ anonymous” folk songs and are being passed from hand to hand- which is the ultimate tribute to a songwriter. They came of age in the 60s\, at the confluence of Pete Seeger\, Peter\, Paul & Mary\, Bob Dylan and the singer/songwriter revolution. They care much more about what they do and stand for and finding that common ground with the audience than fame or money. Children under 6 are free. Reserve your ticket. \nAbout Holly Near \n“I do not separate my music from my heart nor do I separate my ideas from my daily life. I open myself up to learning as much as I can about humanity and this mysterious life experience\, but I do not relate to political work as a series of ’causes.’ Moment by moment\, I integrate what I learn into my personal life\, personalizing my politics. It is from this personal place that I write my songs.” – Holly Near \nSinging was part of Holly from the beginning as she sang along with recordings of some of the world’s great singers. Holly attended UCLA for a few short months\, but she was nabbed by agents and drawn into the world of film and television. (Yes\, she was on The Partridge Family). She even performed for a short run in Hair on Broadway. Her unique and recognizable voice turned her to singing full time\, as a soloist as well as sharing the stage with her sisters Laurel and Timothy. Throughout her career\, she has enjoyed collaborations with such artists as Mercedes Sosa\, Ronnie Gilbert\, Inti Illimani\, Emma’s Revolution\, and her long-time songwriting partner\, the late Jeff Langley. In the 1970’s her introduction to global feminism had her crossing paths with lesbian feminist performers such as Meg Christian\, Cris Williamson\, Linda Tillery\, Mary Watkins\, and Alive! Her view of life was expanded as she tried to understand the depth of sexism and homophobia. Of course she turned the lessons she learned into song. \n“As a songwriter\, she turns big experiences into personal stories. In response to the slaughter of the students at Kent State\, she wrote It Could Have Been Me. And following the assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk in San Francisco\, she penned Singing For Our Lives. The chilling disappearance of people in Chile under the Pinochet dictatorship brought forth Hay Una Mujer Desaparecida to commemorate the women who had “been disappeared.” \nShe has been recognized by various justice organizations\, including the ACLU\, the National Organization of Women\, and Ms Magazine. (She is a recipient of the Women of the Year awarded by Ms Magazine). She has been nominated for Grammys as well as the Legends of Women’s Music Award. \nIn 2019\, Holly began a website project called Because of a Song\, an online historic archive that documents some of the influential artists that rose from the feminist lesbian music scene in Oakland\, California. The site can be viewed at www.becauseofasong.com. \nHer unique and recognizable voice in confluence with her commitment to human rights and political justice makes an evening of her music unforgettable. Known for his ABC children’s show Make-A-Wish and his children’s albums\, Chapin is also the younger brother of late folk singer/songwriter and humanitarian Harry Chapin. A fixture on the American folk music circuit\, he has frequently performed with Pete Seeger\, Holly Near\, Peter Yarrow\, Judy Collins\, and David Amram. His career spans five decades and over 25 albums. Tom has been recognized with three Grammy awards for Mama Don’t Allow\, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and The Train They Call the City of New Orleans.
