Video: Volunteering for the River Dear Clearwater Volunteer, First of all, thank you for sharing your time and energy with Clearwater! Whether you are a new volunteer or an “old hand”, the step you are taking will enrich your life, as well as assist Clearwater in fulfilling its mission. To help you “learn the ropes”, Clearwater, Willow Mixed Media, and the Hudson River Foundation have put together a short 16-minute “Volunteering for the River” video. Whether you’re crewing aboard the Clearwater or Mystic Whaler, or helping out at one of our land-based programs or festivals, this video should be helpful. It gives a basic background of Hudson River ecology and Clearwater history, along with aspects of our various learning stations. Most of the video’s focus is on the fundamentals for our on-board learning stations, but those fundamentals come in useful in all of our education programs. Watching the video by itself is useful, but as a volunteer you may want to delve deeper by reading through the Volunteer Educator Guide (PDF). If you’d like even more information about Hudson River history and environmental issues, we suggest reading The Hudson: An Illustrated Guide to the Living River by Stanne, Panetta and Forist, available at many bookstores and from our online catalog. You may also contact the Clearwater office and order a VHS tape, available as a loan. Please be sure to return the video to us as soon as you can so that we can lend it to others. If you do order a loaner, please mail this video back to the Clearwater office. Please don’t bring it to the boat—sailboats and videotapes don’t always mix! See you on the River!!
