American Sugar Refining Supports Yonkers Youth Onboard Education

BEACON, NY — Students from Yonkers will take part in Hudson River Sloop Clearwater’s award-winning “Sailing Classroom” and dockside environmental programs this October, thanks to support from American Sugar Refining. The education programs are provided in collaboration with Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE) and will take place during the week of October 21. During that week, Yonkers high school students will sail onboard the sloop Clearwater, and a day of shore programming will be provided for Yonkers middle school students.

The centerpiece of Clearwater’s education program is its Sailing Classroom where educational programs are provided from the deck of a traditional sailing ship, providing a uniquely powerful platform for students to learn about the Hudson River’s natural wonders and cultural significance. For many, this is their introduction to the Hudson River and environmental education which can forge a connection with nature to last a lifetime.

“American Sugar is committed to conducting business in a manner that is environmentally responsible and we have been good stewards locally in Yonkers concerning the beautiful Hudson River,” stated Bob Jandovitz, Regional HR Manager American Sugar Refining. “We are extremely excited to partner with both Clearwater and YPIE to bring creative environmental programs to both high school and middle school students in Yonkers.”
