The Floating Classroom is Now Booking Group Sails for the 2011 Season!

Bring your school, after-school program or group of friends sailing with Clearwater in 2011. Our three-hour shipboard program is an exploration of the Hudson River that forges a lifelong connection with nature.

Clearwater’s sailing season runs from early April through mid-November, docking at numerous sites along the Hudson River, New York Harbor and western Long Island Sound. Have a look at our sailing schedule to find out when Clearwater will be in your area, then complete and return the 2011 group sail application form.

We raise the  sails with teamwork, deploy the fishing net, and sing shanties. Students are guided through inquiry-based learning stations to examine the day’s catch, perform water quality tests, learn about the Hudson’s rich history, and help navigate the sloop. We bring history, biology, physics, and environmental science to life for your school or educational group.

Since the launch of the Clearwater, more than half a million young people and thousands of adults have experienced their first real look at an estuary’s ecosystem aboard the sloop. Clearwater’s pioneering ship-based education programs are suitable for groups fourth grade through college.

The sloop Clearwater is a nationally-recognized symbol of environmental awareness and a floating classroom to inspire tomorrow’s environmental leaders. Enjoy the Hudson Valley’s beautiful vistas and historic landmarks from aboard a majestic 106’ long replica tall ship. Learn about the Hudson River, its place in American history, and how a grassroots group of volunteers fought to save it.
