Butterfish

Peprilus triacanthus

Butterfish are small silvery saltwater fish, usually no more than nine inches in length. They are widely distributed along the East Coast, and are fished commercially, often appearing in the fresh fish section of local supermarkets. Very small individuals take shelter under drifting jellyfish, apparently not bothered by their stinging tentacles.
