On Wednesday, October 27, 2010, Dutchess County Executive William R. Steinhaus, members of the Dutchess County Arts Council, and civic leaders honored this year’s recipients of the 2010 Dutchess County Executive’s Arts Awards during a dinner ceremony at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie. Hudson River Sloop Clearwater was recognized in the category of Art in Public Places, as a “floating icon of the Hudson River Valley” that shares music and the arts with thousands of residents and visitors each year through the Great Hudson River Revival. Jeff Rumpf, Executive Director, accepted the award on behalf of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. Setting the tone for the evening, Clearwater’s Power of Song youth group gave an inspiring performance at the gala event.

The Arts Council is very pleased to recognize Clearwater for their artistic achievements,” said Benjamin Krevolin, president of the Dutchess County Arts Council. “It seems like music and singing is woven into the very fibers of the Clearwater‘s sails. Through their festivals and other programs they have engaged thousands of folks in environmental causes through music and other arts.  Here at the Dutchess County Arts Council we know that the arts can save the world, the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater demonstrates how that actually happens. Kudos to Pete, Jeff, and the whole crew! Onward!”

The recipients of the 2010 awards and the categories in which they were honored, were: Wayne and Brigid Nussbickel, Patrons; Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Art in Public Places; Liza Donnelly and Michael Maslin, Individual Artists; The CENTER for Performing Arts Rhinebeck, Arts Organization; Hudson Beach Glass, Business; Anthony Scarrone, Arts in Education; La Voz, Special Citation.

Each year, nominations come in to the Arts Council from residents throughout Dutchess and nearby counties. The final recipients are selected through a panel review process. Since 1986, 166 awards have been given.
