Invasive Species Sail

Help hoist the sails and steer the boat with the 11-foot tiller. Meet the crew of the tall ship and enjoy or sing along with the music they make on board. Learn about the river’s history, biology and environmental issues. Clearwater’s Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator  Samantha Epstein will identify invasive species in the river and discuss how to prevent their spread. Tickets: Adults, $50; Members, $35; Children 12 and under, free.

Invasive Species Survey Training

Black Rock Park, Croton-on-Hudson

Clearwater’s Invasive Species Program coordinator, Samantha Epstein, will train volunteers in how to identify  aquatic invasive species, to help collect data on their impact on the Hudson River.  We will be learning to identify plants including the dreaded Hydrilla and others that choke off waterways and harm the ecology: curlyleaf pondweed, brittle naiad, fanwort, water chestnut, and Eurasian watermilfoil; also two plants that are emerging in the area – didymo and aldrovanda. Key identifying characteristics for the Chinese mystery snail, Asian clam, and the zebra mussel will also be explained. Another training session will be held Sunday, July 26, 10:00 AM – Noon.

“Constellation” Art Sail
Saturday, August 1, 7:00-9:00 PM
From Beacon

Sail onboard the sloop Clearwater for an exclusive look at the art installation Constellation, appearing over the mysterious Bannerman’s castle on Pollepel Island. Artist Melissa McGill will join us on board to discuss the hand-blown glass bulbs that will illuminate the sky, and what they represent. Tickets: Adults, $100; Members, $75; Children 12 and under, $25.

Sail Through History with Crailo State Historic Site and Clearwater!
Join historians from the Historic Crailo house, once owned by the Van Rensselaer family, on a sail that will explore the history of the Hudson River and it’s role in the lives of the early Dutch Settlers. After the sail, uncover the history of the historic Crailo house for yourself with a tour of the house and garden. Tickets include the sail and the tour. Tickets $50, members $35, kids $15.
